Road Safety Education and Training

The aim of education, training and encouragement in Road Safety is to educate all road users in the proper and safe use of roads in order to change user attitudes and behaviour and to stimulate an awareness of the need for improvement in road safety. Road user behavioural changes are necessary to help reduce and prevent road collisions. This can be partly achieved through awareness programmes of education, training, publicity and promotion.

The immediate impact of Education in terms of collision reduction is usually relatively small, as the number of persons exposed will form a small proportion of the total road users. In time, it is hoped that consistent road safety education and encouragement will achieve significant behavioural changes (from the cradle to the grave so to speak), which can be expected to lead to a reduction in the number of collisions and casualties.

RSM are acutely aware that Road user behavioural changes are necessary to help reduce and prevent road collisions, and to this end RSM are committed to stimulating an awareness of the need for improvement in Road Safety Education for the benefit of all Road Users.

RSM have extensive experience in formulation of Education, Training and Publicity (ETP) programmes and policies and research into high risk road user groups. Our staff have experience in working on projects within the public realm in terms of facilitating those involved in Road Safety campaigning, including many bereaved family members who had lost loved ones in Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs) and were particularly vocal about how they wished their loved ones to be remembered with due respect for minimising the recurrence of future tragedies wherever possible. RSM are ever mindful and respectful of the sensitivities of the subject matter and the rights of all effected families to grieve.

Our Director Miriam currently works as a part-time lecturer in Road Safety Engineering in UCD, where she provides lectures on an RSE module to Final Year Civil Engineering students, in addition to setting case study assignments and exam questions on the subject and supervising and advising students on related research / final year projects.

RSM also offer a service to The Department of Education in the provision of training and advice for pre-school, primary and post-primary educational establishments on an ad hoc basis.
